How do you save money on entertainment/going out expenses?

Main Post:

I’ve discovered that going out can be a ton of fun, but it’s not always so fun on my wallet!

Does anyone have any tips, advice, or resources for cutting down costs on entertainment and going out?

Some that came to mind/I already use:

  • Groupon: I always look for coupons to the activities I want to go to, and I usually find good deals.
  • The Library: There are so many free events, workshops, and classes that I didn’t know existed. Plus, I am able to get passes to museums and national parks!
  • Discounts Nights: Most entertainment places I frequent usually have a discounted night or two, so I’ve been trying to take advantage of that.

Top Comment: I don't know if this counts, but usually whenever my husband and I consider going to the movies, we rent one at home and buy whatever we want for snacks at the grocery store. Still fun, you can pause the movie to pee, our pets are here, and it's cheaper. Phones go away unlike a regular TV night.

Follow the money. Sun and Sky Entertainment has deals with Nike and Dick’s Sporting Goods… No coincidence Alicia clearly shows those brands.

I doubt Nike is paying her squat. There are 13 year olds with better aesthetic and filming skills than her piling up Nike half open boxes of the most generic shoes they have on a counter haphazardly.

My sister works in marketing for a massive fast food chain. She talks about what’s expected of the “influencers” they hire for spots and it would never be filming like this. Nike has too much clout and worldwide prestige to need stacked boxes of their base model shoes stacked in a shopping cart with Lush making weird adderal faces. She can’t even remember the prices of some of the shoes or the shoe names when she’s done. That wasn’t an influencer spot at all.

I think she shops for nonstop tennis shoes because she’s obsessed with them. Like she’s obsessed with pizza, candy, soda floats and more. She has obsessions with her shopping addictions

What I find confusing about this is the lack of announcement about this from City of Melbourne, Vic Government or ... really any of the usual sources? I'd have expected a press release at least? When was the program coming back in September even announced?

Ways to save money on weekend food/entertainment

Main Post:

I've been doing well at staying within my budget/means, but one area I need to improve on in my weekend spending.

I usually run out of my prepped meals around the weekend, and maybe have wrongfully convinced myself that treating myself to a meal out isn't much worse than a one off trip to the grocery store to buy all the ingredients for non-bulk prepared meal.

Additionally, it's the thick of summer and friends/family are always inviting me to do things that cost money, or at the very least drive up my gas expenses.

How I can I be frugal without majorly sabotaging my social life? I do like the rhythm of grabbing a bite out on the weekend and seeing other peole so I'm not just spending time at my apartment and work 24/7. It's not like I'm partying all the time and always eating out at fancy places, but even modestly eating and drinking out seems wasteful when going through my budget.

What are some free or cheap ways to get out of the house without breaking the bank?

And any ideas for cheap dates are welcome too. My partner is also quite frugal, but I think we both fall into the trap of spending a little more than we should on dates so we can have nice experiences together.

Thanks!!!

This is my life right now. Meal prep after grocery shopping once a week, eat out once on the weekend. I’m at a comfortable income level to do this now, and I don’t regret this routine because eating out and spent my time with my partner outside of home builds good memories.

Look into free events in your area. I often go to exhibitions, museums, galleries for free. For example, in the past two months I went to a free kimbap making class by the Korean centre in my city, visited a kimono exhibition exhibition by the Japanese foundation, and will go to a fair this weekend with my partner. For fairs and festivals, as long as you are not buying the food and goodies, you won’t be spending money, and often I’ll get freebies there too, my favourite is random native plants (unfortunately I inevitably kill them within 2 months but if I had more time and care I’m sure they’ll live).

I often catch up with my friends at the Asian grocery store near work lol. I have to go there once a month to stock up anyway, and most of my friends don’t know much about Asian foods or ingredients, whereas I’m an avid cook. I end up spending up to an hour in the store talking to them about ingredients. I’ll still come out buying stuff, but that’s my groceries (I don’t impulse buy so this is fine).

blizzard don't want my money

Main Post:

i can't buy a wow subscription, every time that i try to buy it, it says "purchase complete" but i still don't get active game time.
every time that i look at "games and subscriptions" in the account settings i only see "add a subscription" and i am not being charged for money

edit:

at the first time i accidentally used the wrong paypal account and it worked, now when i'm trying to do it with my actual paypal account it doesn't.
the first time i got a message from my bank account saying zero money was removed from my account towards blizzard entertainment, but it doesn't happen anymore.
‏but i also think that i managed to cancel the subscription before the first payment.
